Importance of Carbs for Runners

Running long distances requires some serious fueling. That is why it is a little bit of a pet peeve of mine when I see posts in forums made by people who are doing a low carb diet yet expect to have enough energy to run a marathon. You need all the simple sugars you can get when you are doing your long runs. Your personal glycogen stores get depleted well before the marathon is over. A lot of people like to drink sports drinks to get the carbs, others like to eat energy gels, and some do both. I am personally a fan of honey sticks.
